Arudra Darshan 2023 or Arudra Darsanam  is a festival dedicated to Maha Shiva in the form of Nataraja. It is celebrated in the Tamil month of Margazhi and is observed on full moon day. It is believed that the festival was started by the great sage Agastya. It is celebrated on the day of Arudra Nakshatra and coincides with the Pournami. In 2023, the festival will be celebrated and preparations are already underway. Devotees worship Natarajar during Arunodaya on this day and Special pujas and rituals are held on the day at the temple.

The Thiruvadhirai Vrata, also known as the Ardra Darshana Vrata, is a vrata dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is observed on the thiruvadhirai nakshaththram, the full moon day in the Tamil month of Maargazi or Maargasira, the month of DecemberJanuary as per the Gregorian calendar. The Thiruvadhirai vrata is one of the eight significant vratas. Thiruvadhirai is also considered to be the nakshatram of Nataraja.

It is held annually at the Chidambaram Shiva Temple in Tamil Nadu, where the cosmic dance of Maha Shiva is enacted. Arudra Darsanam at Chidambaram Nataraja Temple

The Chidambaram Nataraja Temple in Tamil Nadu is considered to be one of the holiest shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is renowned for its depiction of Lord Shiva in his Ananda Tandava the cosmic dance.

The Arudra Darsanam Festival marks the conclusion of the Margazhi Brahmotsavam – the most important temple festival in Chidambaram. According to legend, Shiva performed his cosmic dance at Chidambaram in response to the pleas of Adi Shesha and Vyagrapaadar, who wished to witness it. This Ananda Thandavam of Shiva is said to symbolize the five divine acts of creation, sustenance, dissolution, concealment, and bestowment of grace. The Chidambaram Temple is also renowned for its ‘formless form’ of Shiva – the Chidambara Rahasyam. This form of Shiva is worshipped in the temple as the Akasa Lingam.
