Story of Haridra Ganpati is considered among the most powerful stories of all time. Our beloved Bhagwan Ganesh has many forms. One among the many, is His form of Haridra Ganpati. It is one of the most powerful avatars of Bhagwaan Ganesha.

Haridra is referred to turmeric as it is considered an auspicious element in the world of Indian poojas. Haridra Ganpati is also worshipped with turmeric powder and is always yellow in colour. Not only this, there is much more to the story of Haridra Ganpati.

It is said that Haridra Ganpati came to fulfill the wishes of Maa Tripurasundari and restore dharma. Considering Bhagwaan Ganesha the Vighnaharta, Maa Tripurasundari demanded Him to destroy the evil Bhandasur. Bhandasur’s aim was to worship and achieve the powers of Abhichara Yantra and spread adharma all over the world. Bhagwaan Ganesha in his Haridra form destroyed the yantra as well as the evil Bhandasur. Such was his power and might.

While all the 32 Ganapati forms are available as sculptures in the temples at Chamarajanagar and Nanjangud in the Mysore district of Karnataka, Haridra Ganapati himself is enshrined in the Sage Rishyasringa temple in Sringeri in the same state, where he can be worshipped. This Ganapati is said to be associated with Vishaka Nakshatra, the star Visakam.

Other than this, Haridra Ganpati have many significant features which makes Him unique than His other forms. Haridra Ganpati is:

  • Yellow in colour and skin tone
  • Wears yellow clothes
  • Radiant and glorious
  • Has four hands, among which there is Ankush in upper right hand, lower right hand is placed in Varada Mudra, Noose is held in upper left hand and a Kalash filled with gold coins in present lower left hand.

Haridra Ganpati is worshipped when the Chaturthi Tithi falls on Thursday. People worship Haridra Ganpati for many reasons. Some of them may be to attain beaty, cure the disease at earliest, get a job, marry the person they love and living with peace and harmony.

No matter what the form is, Bhagwaan Ganesha has always been there to protect us.
